Surrender

Surrendering Your Exotic Bird

No shame. Just safety, care, and compassion.

We know this isn’t easy. If you’re overwhelmed, struggling, or facing a major life change, we’re here to help your bird land safely — with no judgment.

What Happens After You Submit

  • Fill out the form below
  • We’ll review and contact you within 1–3 business days
  • If space allows, we’ll schedule the intake
  • If we’re full, we may place you on a waitlist
  • Emergency? Contact us immediately after submission

Step 1 — Quarantine & Vet Check

Your bird starts in our quarantine area to decompress, get monitored for health concerns, and receive treatment if needed — in quiet, low-stress care. This phase can last 2–30 days or longer if medically required.

Step 2 — Species-Appropriate Housing

Once medically cleared, your bird moves into an enclosure suited to its species. Birds don’t share cages but can see and vocalize with others nearby for social stimulation. Structured out-of-cage time is provided several times a week.

Step 3 — Nutrition & Enrichment

Birds receive a science-based diet (pellets, fresh foods, enrichment regimens) and rotating toys to promote behavioral engagement and health. Most arrive malnourished or overweight, and within weeks show marked improvement.

Step 4 — Screened Adoption Matching

We screen all adopters thoroughly: interviews, home review, matching bird personality to owner lifestyle. We create a profile using the details you share to ensure a good placement fit, not just the first available home.

Step 5 — Lifetime Return Guarantee

If placement doesn’t work out down the road, birds surrendered or adopted through us always have a safe place to return — no exceptions.

Before You Begin the Surrender Form

Please share as much detail as possible about your bird(s). If surrendering multiple birds, complete one application and list information for each.

Your honesty helps us assess needs and build comprehensive profiles for adoption.

How long have you had the bird, how long did the person before you have the bird, where did they get the bird – and so on. The only history we get is what you tell us, and it’s impossible to age a bird without any historical knowledge. You are the only link we have to this bird’s history.
Do they love a certain type of toy, favorite foods? Favorite activities or things to do?
Feel free to tell us anything we need to know about your birds human preferences.
When did it start, and have you noticed any correlation to plucking and environment or injury?
Is your bird happy with being handled or does he/she prefer to be in their cage, independent? When was the last time your bird was handled? Are they stick trained?
No judgement here – we are just working to put together a full chart so we know what we need to address when they get here.
